One thing Lincoln City were noted for in the past were the aerial bombardments delivered during the John Beck era. This continued with Shane Westley as manager and many Imps fans will remember the Bimmo corners flying straight into the goal.
To add a little more spice to the proceedings when these corners or free kicks were being launched a small group of supporters decided to bring along an old WW2 air raid siren. The wailing of this siren would signal the Imps aerial assault on the opposition goal.
It became such a feature that it even appeared live on Soccer AM which gave some of us lucky enough to attend the chance to meet Helen Chamberlain!
After a good couple of years service the original siren was knackered and had to be retired from service. In fact it was subsequently auctioned off to raise money for the "Save The Imps" appeal run by the Supporters' Trust. It's replacement was used for a few more seasons before being retired due to lack of interest.
Since then there have been calls for it to return and once located it was wheeled out. Unfortunately an over zealous operator managed to take it beyond its performance limits and a few little malfunctions appeared. It has since been sat gathering dust and the odd comment before a volunteer stepped forward to make some much needed repairs.
Simon Roden of Spurrs DIY gets cranking
Simon Roden who works for Spurrs DIY in North Hykeham has been kind enough to replace the winding handle and sort out pins for the spindle. Hopefully the siren will once more be heard across the San Sincil as the Imps head for goal!
Spurrs DIY is run by Brian Spurr and thanks go to Brian for helping out with this project. His local business can be found at 423 Newark Road, Lincoln, Lincolnshire, LN6 8RS
