The Lincoln City Supporters Trust Board have discussed the proposal by the Premier League to play an additional game abroad and strongly oppose these plans.
John Roddam, Trust Chairman said “This is seen as pure greed with the fattest getting fatter. It is worth remembering what some of the biggest clubs have argued for.
A reduction in the number of clubs in the league from 20 to 18
A break in the fixture schedule during the winter in line with other European leagues.
A reduction in the heavy new-year fixture programme.
The need for top players to play fewer games due to international commitments.
The withdrawal of Premier league clubs from the Carling cup competition.
Despite all of the these and other comments made in previous years the Premier League are now proposing that they play overseas matches in January!
John continued by commenting ”This to us is seen as treating the supporter as of no consequence, despite making the clubs what they are today and must be killed-off at birth. FIFA have condemned the idea but yet again the F.A. procrastinate and have asked for more detail. Greed is the order of the day and with many foreign owners in it purely for profit we are not surprised
The Football Supporters Federation have launched a web site Say No To The 39£ Game on www.fsf.org.uk and we urge everyone to vote.
We will continue to watch developments, lobby against this proposal at every opportunity and fight for a better deal for all football supporters.
