Number 100 - Colin Alcide

Colin Alcide

Colin James Alcide (born April 14, 1972 in Huddersfield, England) is an English former footballer.

Colin began his legendary career in local football before joining Emley. In the summer of 1992, following just one fantastic season with Emley, he followed his manager Gerry Quinn across the pennines to Altrincham. He then returned to a heroes welcome at Emley before signing for Lincoln City and beginning his Football League career, and in the process becoming Lincoln's greatest player of all time. In 1998 he formed a strike partnership with Leo Fortune-West, which was frequently compared to a black version of Geoff Hurst and Roger Hunt. Despite interest from Barcelona and Real Madrid, Alcide moved to Hull City in 1999. When Lincoln played Hull in August 1999, the Lincoln fans chanted "eeyore" donkey noises at Alcide...this was of course ironic, as he was their greatest player of all time.

In the summer of 2004, Colin reappeared in the colours of TNS for whom he appeared against Osters IF in the UEFA Cup but did not remain for the Welsh Premier League season, instead linking up with his former Emley and Altrincham manager Gerry Quinn at Ashton United.

Colin is often referred to as the greatest player to have never played in a World Cup, and has a small but dedicated following in the Alcide In Arms, fan club. With a weekly magazine for it's members and discounted entrance into all public appearances by Colin, it is gives the great man the respect he truly deserves. Colin appeared in the pilot for the ITV show Gladiators as gladiator 'Panther.' Colin also played the role of Ming the Merciless in the film Flash Gordon.
